About the Orientation
This orientation is the product of the collaborative work between the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) and the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine, Continuing Professional Development. The orientation aims to prepare CPSO Clinical Supervisors to perform their supervision duties in the area of opioid prescribing and the management of chronic non-cancer pain.
Divided into five modules, the orientation provides an overview of the fundamentals of medical regulation and the CPSO-directed supervision process; the expectations of supervisors and general requirements of supervision, including common supervision components and Individualized Education Plans. It also reviews in detail the University of Toronto CPD’s Safer Opioid Prescribing program as a context sensitive response to the opioid crisis, including review of practice change outcomes from the program, and highlights other key educational resources related to opioid prescribing and chronic non-cancer pain available in the community.
